FAQ

Which format should I pick?
JPG for photos you send or submit, since it opens everywhere. PNG for screenshots with text or images that need a transparent background. WebP for images going on a website, where small files matter. GIF only when an old program or forum accepts nothing else.
Why does my GIF look grainy?
A GIF holds at most 256 colors, so photos show visible color banding. This tool makes a single still GIF. For photos, JPG or WebP is the better choice.
What happens to a transparent background when I convert PNG to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the color you choose (white by default). To keep transparency, pick PNG, WebP or GIF. GIF transparency is all or nothing, so soft edges get a little rough.
Does it handle animated GIFs or multi-page TIFFs?
Animated GIFs convert their first frame only. TIFF is not accepted here, because TIFFs often have several pages and would turn into several files.
