- What is HEIC and why can't I open it?
- HEIC (or HEIF) is Apple's high-efficiency image format. It saves storage space while keeping quality high, but Windows, older Androids, and many websites don't support it natively. Converting to JPG ensures your files open anywhere.
- Should I choose JPG or PNG?
- Choose JPG for standard photos to enjoy smaller file sizes and broad compatibility. Choose PNG if you need lossless editing or transparent areas. Note that PNG outputs will have significantly larger file sizes.
- Will converting reduce my image quality?
- PNG conversions preserve every pixel losslessly. JPG uses lossy compression, but our default 92% setting keeps quality high and artifacts invisible to the eye. Turn the quality slider up if you need maximum fidelity.
- Do you upload my photos to your servers?
- Never. We handle all HEIC decoding and conversion locally in your browser. We never upload your photos, and we clear them from memory as soon as you close the page.
- Why does the first conversion take longer?
- We download and initialize our WebAssembly-based HEIC decoder on the first run. This takes a few seconds, but all subsequent files will process much faster.
