FAQ

What is the difference between pixelate and blur?
Pixelate splits the area into square blocks and fills each block with its average color. Blur mixes each pixel with its neighbors so outlines smear. For text such as plates and names, pixelate is the surer choice. For faces or backgrounds, blur looks less jarring.
Can someone undo the effect?
Not from the result file. The tool does not lay a cover on top; it rewrites the pixel values in that area and saves a single flat image, so the original pixels are not in the file. At low strength the shape of large text can still be guessed, so use a high strength when hiding text.
Is my photo uploaded? What about location data?
Nothing is uploaded. All processing happens in your browser. The result is drawn onto a canvas and saved as a new file, so the original EXIF data (GPS position, capture time, device details) is not written into it.
Do the dimensions or quality change?
The dimensions and format stay the same as the original. With PNG, pixels outside the hidden areas are kept exactly. JPG and WebP are compressed once more at quality 92 when saved, so untouched areas can change very slightly.
