FAQ
- When should I pick PNG over JPG?
- When the transparent background must survive, or the file is a master you will keep editing. AVIF supports transparency and JPG does not, so a JPG conversion fills those areas with colour. For simple lightweight sharing, JPG is far smaller.
- The result is several times larger — is that normal?
- Yes. AVIF is among the most efficient lossy formats there is, and PNG discards nothing. For photographs, growing more than tenfold is not unusual.
- Does PNG improve the quality?
- No. Detail discarded during AVIF compression does not come back. Treat the conversion as freezing the current quality so it stops degrading.
