FAQ
- When should I pick PNG over JPG?
- When you need the transparent background, when the file is a master you will keep editing, or when it is a screenshot full of text and tables. PNG never degrades on re-save. For a photo with a full background that you just want to store or share, JPG is far lighter.
- The result is bigger than the original — is that right?
- Yes, that is expected. WebP is lossy and compact; PNG throws away nothing, so it is generally larger, and for photographs it can be several times larger. If size matters more than editability, stay with the original WebP.
- Does PNG improve the quality?
- No. PNG preserves exactly what is there now — it cannot restore detail the WebP compression already discarded. Think of the conversion as freezing the current quality so it stops degrading, not as an upgrade.
