- When is JPG the better choice over PNG?
- When you do not need transparency, want the file light, or are submitting to a form that only accepts JPG. Be aware, though, that SVGs are usually logos, icons and diagrams — images with crisp edges, exactly where JPG leaves smearing. Without a specific reason, PNG is the better pick.
- The background came out black.
- JPG has no transparency, so the empty areas of the SVG must be filled with something. Left unspecified they can composite to black, which is why this tool defaults to white. Set it to match wherever the image will sit and it will blend in.
- Does a larger size mean better quality?
- With SVG, yes — it genuinely renders sharper at larger sizes, unlike enlarging a pixel image. That said, going far beyond the size it will be displayed at only inflates the file. One to two times the display size is a sensible target.
