FAQ
- What happens to an animated GIF?
- Only the first frame is saved as a JPG, because JPG cannot hold multiple frames. The remaining frames will not be in the result, so keep the original GIF if you need the motion. The same notice appears on the conversion screen.
- What about a GIF with a transparent background?
- JPG has no transparency, so those areas are filled with the background colour you choose — white by default. If transparency has to survive, convert to PNG instead.
- The colours look different from the original.
- GIF is limited to 256 colours, so the source often already has coarse, banded colour. Converting to JPG cannot invent colours that were never there, and JPG compression on top can make those colour edges look softer still. If colour edges matter, choose PNG.
